SHC would like to welcome
two new members. Dan Buell and Arkady Iskov were accepted by
the membership at the company meeting held on July 3rd and
approved by the village board on July 9th. Dan resides in
the Town of Saratoga and has previous firefighting
experience. Arkady lives in the village. Welcome to
the company!

Dozois were married on Saturday July 5th at the Abundant Life church in Saratoga
Springs. The reception dinner followed at the Saratoga
Springs Knights of Columbus. Rob's best man was FF Matt
Derway and groomsmen were FF's Marcus Lapitsky and Ray Carr.
Congratulations to Rob and Danielle.

Welcome New Members
SHC would like to welcome
three new members; Colton Barber, Jonathan Devlin and Joe Magliulo
II. The membership accepted their applications at the
monthly company meeting on May 1, 2008 and were officially
approved by the village board on May 14, 2008. All three
reside in the Town of Saratoga and attend Schuylerville High
School. Welcome to the company! Also, at the May 1
company meeting Associate Member Mark Wells submitted a request to
return to active membership, which was approved by the
membership. Mark has over sixteen years of active service
with the company. Welcome back Mark!

School Driver Safety Day
Members of SHC participated
in a student driver safety day at the Schuylerville H.S. on May
5th. A mock crash was staged in the rear of the
school. Emergency personnel from the NY State Police, Gen.
Schuyler Emergency Squad and Schuyler Hose responded to the

Public Fire Safety
Educators' Conference
FF Frank Merrill attended
PFSEC at the NY State Fire Academy in Montour Falls over the
weekend of May 2nd - 4th. This conference is cosponsored
with the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs and provides a series of
presentations, demonstrations, workshops, and illustrations of
successful public fire prevention education programs. It offers
students new ideas and concepts to improve planning, developing,
and presenting programs for both children and adults. Various
speakers from private organizations, fire service, government
agencies, and industry are involved.

firefighters and/or who will serve as team or group leaders under

Principles of
Building Construction
On March 20, 2008 Safety Officer
Richard Behrens completed the 12 hour Principles of Building
Construction course. This course introduces basic
construction principles and the special characteristics of wood
and ordinary construction as they concern the fire service.
Primary emphasis is on improving the fire officer's ability to
ensure firefighter safety by recognizing common causes and
indicators of failure and other hazards related to building
construction. Course material enables the fire officer to better
predict the overall reaction of a building to fire
conditions. The PBC course was hosted by Eagle
Matt Lee Fire Company in Ballston Spa and instructed by State Fire
Instructor Pete Shaw

Life Member Francis Murphy has
accepted the Fire Chief's position with the City of Cocoa, Florida
starting on March 10th. Fran started his firefighting career
with Schuyler Hose in 1970 and recently retired as the Asst. Fire
Chief of Saratoga Springs in August of 2006. Congratulations
Fran!
