Extrication in Northumberland
November 29th - At 15:15 SHC and
Gen Schuyler EMS were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Homestead Rd.
with entrapment. Car 57, Chief Myers, arrived and initiated size up of the
one vehicle rollover accident with a total of three patients, one trapped in the
vehicle. ER-572 & ER-573's crew disentangled the trapped female's arm
that was pinned between the door and the roof of the vehicle and removed the
driver side doors. They also assisted EMS with patient stabilization and
removal to the landing zone. SHC returned to service at 17:31.
Boat
request to Gansevoort
November 17th - At 17:17 SHC and
South Glens Falls FD were requested by Gansevoort command to respond our rescue
boats to a water rescue on the Hudson River in the t/o Northumberland. It
was reported that a small boat had gone over the low level dam at the north end of Thompson Island. One boater had self rescued himself and rescue
personnel had visual contact with him from West River Rd. A second boater
was missing. MR-576 with Lt's Decker, Derway and Myers deployed from a
private launch south of Thompson Island at 1737. They proceeded north and
picked up the first boater on the west side of the island and brought him to
shore and turned him over to EMS. The crew then maneuvered to the east side of
the island to start a search for the missing boater. SGF dive boats,
MR-576 and a State Police helicopter continued the search for some time. The
capsized boat was spotted in the backwash of the dam. The second boater
was then soon recovered. SHC returned to service at 2006.
Heavy
Rains Cause Localized Flooding in Village
July 1st - SHC was dispatched at
17:19 for a flooded basement at 174 Broad St. When F-575 arrived a section
of Broad St. was under water due to a break in an underground culvert. The
village had just received about three inches of heavy rain in the late
afternoon. Broad St. was shut down between Saratoga and Spring Sts.
Units pumped basements and detoured traffic until the water subsided. All
units returned to service at 21:30. The company ran additional pump outs
on July 2nd and 3rd also as a result of the heavy rain on the 1st.

Tractor Fire in Northumberland
May 21st - At 14:11 SHC was
dispatched for a working farm tractor fire in a field off of Starks Knob
Rd. ER-573 and F-575 responded. Upon arrival of ER-573 the tractor
was well off the road and the cab area well involved with fire. F-575
extinguished the fire, while the engine was staged at the road. SHC units
in service at 15:30.
Mutual Aid to Ft. Edward
May 8th - At 20:22 Ft. Edward fire
command requested a tanker to the scene of a fully involved barn fire on St.
James Rd. in t/o Ft. Edward. Car 57 and TA-574 responded to the
request. All SHC units returned to service at 22:06.

Vehicle Fire in Northumberland
April 17th - At about 5:30 a.m.
SHC was dispatched to a vehicle fire on SR 4/32 in the Town of
Northumberland. Car 57 arrived first and reported a fully involved pick up
truck fire. ER-573's crew arrived soon after and stretched an attack line
and extinguished the fire. TA-574 staged with 573 to supply water if
needed.

FAST Assignment to Quaker
Springs
April 15th - QSFD Asst. Chief Ormsby requested
SHC's FAST to a working structure fire at 104 Haas Rd. in the town of
Saratoga at 04:19. Car 57 and
T-577 responded and set up a FAST staging area in the front yard (side
A). The fire which started in the basement extended to the first
floor through the walls of the balloon construction residence. The
fire was contained to the rear section of the house. Members stood
FAST and conducted safety size ups through out the incident. SHC
units were back in service at 07:00.
Bicycle
vs. Truck with Flight
March 28th - At 16:05 SHC and Gen. Schuyler EMS were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving
a bicycle and truck at the intersection of Broad St. & Spring St. in the
village. Car 57 and ER-572 responded to the incident scene and assisted
EMS with patient care and controlled traffic hazards. Car 579 and ER-573
were sent to Ft. Hardy park to establish a landing zone for the state police
Lifeguard 12 medical helicopter. SHC units were back in service at 17:30.
Grass Fire in Saratoga
March 21st - At 13:56 SHC was
dispatched to 1033 S/R 29 in the t/o Saratoga for a working grass fire
endangering a structure. F-575 arrived first and reported approximately 1
acre burning and advancing away from the structure. A full company
assignment was requested to the scene. In addition, mutual aid from
Quaker Springs for one brush truck and Victory for a cover assignment was
requested. Car 57 Chief Myers arrived at 14:08 and assumed command.
The fire was contained at 14:15 and the mutual aid request to the scene was
cancelled. SHC units were back in service at 15:45.
Chimney Fire in Northumberland
March 10th - At 16:54 SHC was dispatched
to 24 Cramer Path in the t/o Northumberland for a chimney fire. Car 57,
ER-573, T-577, TA-574 and ETA-571 responded. Car 57 reported a working
chimney fire on arrival. Size up found the fire contained to the
chimney. The engine crew extinguished the fire in the fireplace, while the
truck crew went the roof. SHC units were back in service at 18:28

Kitchen Fire in Northumberland
March 5th - At 18:07 SHC was dispatched
to 74 Baker Drive in the t/o Northumberland for a stove fire. Car 57, Car
579, ER-573, TA-574 and T-577 responded. Car 579, Asst. Chief Benton
arrived and reported that the fire was out and ventilation would be
required. 574 & 577 were cancelled and 573's crew ventilated the
residence. All SHC units were back in service at 19:15.
Mutual Aid Fire to Quaker Springs
March 5th - Quaker Springs Chief Dooley
requested SHC for a FAST assignment and a tanker to the scene of a working fire
on CR 70 in the Town of Saratoga. Car 57, Tower 577 and TA-574 responded
to the mutual aid request. Upon arrival, operations were in a defensive
mode. The old farm house was well involved and access to the structure was
very limited due to a long, non-maintained driveway. The truck's crew
assisted QSFD with extinguishment and the tanker shuttled water.

Mutual Aid Fire to Fort Edward
March 3rd - SHC was dispatched to a
mutual aid fire in the Fort Edward fire district. Fort Edward Car 27
requested the truck to the scene of a working fire with possible entrapment on
CR 46 in their town. Cars 57 & 579, Tower 577 and ETA-571
responded. On scene the truck stood ready as the operations were in a
defensive mode. The truck and crew were later used to assist with overhaul
operations. TA-574 was also requested to the scene to shuttle water.

Mutual
Aid Fire to Greenwich
February 14th - SHC was dispatched for a
FAST assignment to Greenwich for a reported barn fire on SR 29 east of their
village. Car 57 and T-577 responded to the mutual aid request. Upon
arrival of Chief Myers GFD was in a defensive suppression operation. T-577
arrived and set up their FAST equipment and conducted safety size ups. Due
to the defensive operations, FAST was not needed and members were used to assist
with extinguishment and overhaul operations.

Chimney Fire in
Northumberland
January 27th - At 13:25 SHC was dispatched to a
chimney fire on State Rt. 32 north of Wall St. intersection. Car
57, ER-573, T-577 and TA-574 responded. Chief Myers arrived and found a
working chimney fire at 733 State Rt. 32. The home owner was unaware
that there was a fire in his chimney. The engine crew went to the inside
to extinguish and check for extension. The truck crew went to the roof
with chimney chains. TA-574 staged at the scene and readied a water
supply to ER-573 if needed. The majority of the fire was extinguished
with a CO2 extinguisher and the excess fire in the creosote build up was
knocked down with the chimney chains. GSES also stood by at the
scene. SHC was in full service at 16:23 with no injuries reported.

Mutual
Aid Fire to Victory
January 11th - At 14:45 Victory
Car 610 Asst. Chief Jim Jennings requested a FAST assignment from SHC to a
working fire at 110 Gates Ave. in their village. Cars 57, 579 and T-577
responded to the mutual aid request. Soon after arrival the FAST
assignment was changed to an engine assignment and 577's crew assisted with
extinguishment. Later the truck was repositioned and used to check for
fire extension under the tin roof. Quaker Springs and Greenwich Fire
Departments, County Car 4, Saratoga C&O Team, GSES, and State Police also
assisted at the scene. SHC was back in full service at 17:45 with no
injuries reported.

One Vehicle Rollover in Saratoga
January 9th - At 02:40 in the
morning SHC was dispatched to a one vehicle rollover on State Rt. 29 just west
of Grangehall Rd. Cars 57, 579, ER-572 and ER-573 responded. The
operator of the vehicle had minor injuries and was treated by GSES. SHC
secured the vehicle and stood by for removal. All SHC units in service at
03:45.
